Welcome to Triangulation, a geographical guessing game. The computer will choose a city at random, and tell you how far away it is from another city. Your challenge is to guess the city. Each time you make a guess, the computer will tell you how close your guess is. You can play with or without a map showing your guesses.
Show Detailed Instructions

This is a game of geographic triangulations. Your goal is to determine a city that the computer has chosen at random. When you make a guess, the computer will tell you how far away your guess is.

Scoring. You start out with 1000 points. Points are deducted for each incorrect guess. The penalty for a wrong guess is proportional to how far off your guess was, as well as the number of turns you've taken.

Game Levels. The game gets more difficult as more towns and cities are added; also, for easier settings, there is a minimum distance between towns in the candidate list. To 'complete' a level, you need to score 900 or more points.

Hints. If you check off the 'Show bearings' box, the computer will give directions along with distances (for example, instead of merely telling you that your guess was 500 miles off, it will tell you that your guess was 500 miles too far north). I find that this makes the game much easier. The 'cheatsheet' is simply a table of distances for selected cities.
